Vitamin B12 is a nutrient that helps keep the body's nerves and blood cells healthy, and helps to make DNA (the genetic material of all cells). Until they become B12 deficient, most people realize the contribution of B12. Low levels of B12 can cause a series of problems, and these problems will become more serious over time.
According to the Canadian Gastrointestinal Research Association, a long-term lack of vitamin B12 can increase the possibility of mental illness, damage neurons and aggravate multiple sclerosis (MS).
MS is a disease that can affect the brain and spinal cord. It can cause a variety of underlying symptoms, including vision, arm or leg movement, sensation, or balance problems.
"These diseases can usually be diagnosed based on your symptoms and the results of blood tests," the health agency explains.
It is important to diagnose and treat vitamin B12 or folic acid deficiency anemia as soon as possible.
The health agency warned: “The longer the disease is untreated, the greater the chance of permanent damage.”

Pernicious anemia is a disease in which the human body cannot produce the protein produced by the stomach, which is called an intrinsic factor.
Vitamin B12 is naturally present in a variety of animal foods and is added to certain fortified foods.
As the National Institutes of Health explains, unless fortified, plant-based foods do not contain vitamin B12.
The NHS added: "If your vitamin B12 deficiency is caused by a lack of vitamins in your diet, you may need to take vitamin B12 tablets every day between meals.
